REPERCUSSION

Manchester’s Depot Mayfield is a massive abandoned train station that has been repurposed into a 10,000 capacity event space. When organizer Warehouse Project rolled out the lineup for this year’s Repercussion festival, there was no question of whether I was going. Headliners Underworld were flanked by a stacked lineup of DJs, including an entire stage dedicated to UK bass styles.

This was not my first jaunt to Manchester’s Depot Mayfield, a massive, industrial-revolution-era abandoned train station that has been repurposed into a venue holding 10,000 people. After seeing Overmono there last year, I’ve kept tabs on the lineups rolled out by organizer Warehouse Project, partly just as another excuse to get back to such a cool city.

To say I was floored by the Repercussion December 2025 festival lineup announcement is an understatement. Five stages, including a stage dedicated entirely to UK bass styles. The headlining act was Underworld, performing live at the Depot for the first time since 2019. They really matched the crowd’s energy and seemed so grateful to be there performing, not to mention they sounded just as good as their 90s recordings. They were flanked by the likes of Floating Points, Caribou, Joy Orbison, Chloe Caillet, Job Jobse, and countless others. The aforementioned UK bass stage saw recent young DJ Mag Best of British award winners SHERELLE and Silva Bumpa, as well as mainstays like Special Request and Main Phase.

One of the wonderful parts about Manchester and large events like Repercussion is that they attract people from all over the country. Manchester is central and quite accessible, meaning I was able to link up with rave pals I’ve met from all over the UK. City hopping is one of best parts of living in UK/EU and still something I am getting accustomed to as a Canadian!

Kate MacDiarmid

Kate MacDiarmid originally hails from Calgary, AB and moved to Halifax, NS to attend Dalhousie University. Alongside her schooling, she bartended every week at a local pub where she spent countless hours curating playlists and playing back-to-back albums across many genres. By graduation, she had developed a taste for electronic music and was beginning to dabble in the budding Halifax DIY rave scene. After moving to Melbourne, Australia for a year-long visa, she threw herself into the massive Australian dance music scene, attending countless club gigs and festivals. This continued into a 6-month stint in Wellington, New Zealand. In September 2024, she moved to Glasgow, Scotland to pursue a master’s at the Glasgow School of Art. By now severely infected by the rave bug, she has wasted no time attending as many events as possible across Glasgow, Manchester, and London, with more on the horizon. AirplaneMode is her way of bringing the dance floors of the UK to you.
